BlackBall's Foundation is an object-based storage management platform designed for distributed data management. Foundation is a distributed architecture on top of which distributed data management products are built. The platform provides facilities for metadata extraction, indexing, searching, metadata tracking, synchronization, copying, moving, deleting, archiving, retaining, and various other data management tasks.

Foundation incorporates a storage object snap-in architecture which profiles specific types of files and enables the index engine to extract rich metadata. The index is robust, intelligent and captures a variety of information about each file. The architecture of Foundation enables BlackBall products to operate very fast and efficiently and ensures that the physical size of the index stays between 1 - 2% of the total size of the files indexed.

Foundation also enables BlackBall products to keep current with the information stored. Through our unique real-time event monitoring the index never loses any information.

Foundation provides additional services for metadata classification. With data growing at the rate of approximately 70% on an annual basis, and 80% of that data being unstructured, Foundation provides the flexibility required to stay ahead of accelerating business changes, and leverage for new needs and usages of data.
